OK, so when last we met I was telling you my tales about planning a local wedding... Well have I got an earful for you!
With the lovely weather of Irene in the forecast a few weeks ago, as I say with my eyebrows raised and eyes wide open, I got a little... Um, scared!
Why you ask? Well, I heard all the horrible stories about brides and grooms getting married, or not getting married during the storm. One poor bride and groom were stuck with more than 100 of their guests cut off from the world by the floodwaters!
Michael and I are due to get married on the grounds of the Point Judith Lighthouse, in our little town of Narragansett in October. We have no back up, since I do not have plans on it raining on our wedding day, even if its good luck!
We have been told by many a local that we can’t get married at the lighthouse since the nearby building collapsed. We have been told that mid-October has nasty weather and we will get rained out, or even worse, hit by a hurricane.
Well, we are still planning on the lighthouse, and according to the Coast Guard we still have the thumbs up, and as for the weather, I know things will be fine –rain, sleet, snow, hurricane – I know things will be fine.
I am not letting that worry me... right now. Trust me, there are other things I am concerning myself with at this moment, let me explain.
Since I last wrote, I ordered our invitations online. I made sure the colors were just right, so I chose Truffle and Ivory. I quadruple checked the spelling, and then checked it one more time before I clicked "submit".
I waited breathlessly for my invites to arrive, checking sometimes twice a day! About 2 weeks later, they arrived! I did the “yippee!” dance in my driveway. Thank goodness none of the neighbors were home.
As I opened the box I glared over at the address label... I noticed a letter missing... An a... My fiancé’s name was now Michel... But when I got in the package, that’s when I froze. I wasn’t seeing truffle, I was seeing PURPLE! YIKES!
So I called the company, and they had me send everything back and promised to fix it ASAP... Well I waited a week and called them. Long story short, they are not in business anymore and cannot be reached. Thank goodness my bank will reverse the charges!
What do you think I did in this situation? I did what any stressed out bride to be would do!
I ate me some chocolate cake, then let it roll off my back! No really, it’s true. I later found clearance-priced invitations at Walmart, in my colors of truffle and ivory. I brought them home and made my own invites!
That’s right, I created the layout and printed them at home. Then Michael and I sat at the kitchen table and glued and cut and stamped them together. I then brought them to the Saunderstown Post Office to be on their little way to our few friends and family.
Oh, the story is not over! We had a message on our machine from a wonderful lady who works at the post office stating that our letters were shy the proper postage!
We hurried over and purchased the proper postage, applied it to the invites and thanked her multiple times. (Thank you again, Pam!)
I hope to blog again about my impending nuptials, and any suggestions for our day will be greatly appreciated!
