Tuckertown Fire Station Improvements Slated For Public Hearing
Union Fire District development plans for Tuckertown Station 8 move forward for public hearing in November.
The Neighborhood Guild was the setting for Tuesday night's Planning Board meeting, with a heavy post-holiday schedule finding the Board, Town Council and School Committee meeting in tandem.
The Board quickly moved through a consent agenda heavily weighted in items referred to the Town Council for review. At notice was the Union Fire District proposal to construct an addition to its Tuckertown Station 8, located at 1116 Ministerial Road.
The project, receiving prelimnary plan approval in September, proposes a 2,500 square foot addition to the existing station. Development plans as submitted require a Special Use Permit and landscaping waiver that necessitate the call for public hearing.
Proposed improvements estimated at $1.1 million will expand the current garage bay, add handicap accessible restrooms, meeting and office areas.
Public hearing is scheduled before the Planning Board on November 8, 2011.
Among other items were two issues previously addressed before the Board in both public work session and formal agenda, drawing significant voice from local residents.
- Domestic Fowl - The Planning Board upon request of the Town Council forwarded recommendations concerning the keeping of domestic fowl on domestic properties. Review by the Town Solicitor of a change to the Town's Code of Ordinances was suggested as an alternative to Zoning Ordinance modification. Due to the rural nature of the community, any possible changes could impact existing agricultural uses in the town.
- LED Signs and Electronic Messaging Boards - Recommendation was made to the Town Council to allow revisions to the Zoning Ordinace concerning the use of flashing and electronic changeable signs within Town boundaries. Revisions to Article 8 would include additional restrictive language prohibiting both types of signage. Specifically noted were the signs already in use in town at the Ryan Center, CVS and Wakefield Prescription.
On for Preliminary Plan Review was the Elmer Knowles Minor Subdivision. The project, a two lot subdivision of an existing 64 acre lot, met with no substantive concerns at TRC review in September.
The Planning board granted Preliminary Plan approval based on the applicants meeting several conditions of approval and limiting the subdivision to two lots in total.
In further matters, the Board unanimously voted to reinstate all officers presently serving.
The meeting concluded with discussion of possible alternatives and locations for those meetings conflicting with the Town Council schedule. It was decided that due to limitations on seating, space and parking at the Neighborhood Guild, future Planning Board meetings in conflict with Council schedules will be moved to the Wednesday evening directly following.
The next scheduled meeting of the Planning Board is November 8 at 7:00pm in council chambers.
