Trio Charged for Hurricane Sandy Break-Ins

According to Narragansett and East Providence police detectives, three residents of East Providence are responsible for 10 burglaries in the Scarborough Hills area of Narragansett during Hurricane Sandy.

Narragansett Police Detective Lt. Sean Corrigan identified the three as Joao Pacheco, 20, Mario Estrela, 18, and Matthew Andrade, 24. East Providence police had arrested them as suspects in breaking and entering cases in their city on Nov. 2, and Narragansett charges were added on Nov. 3.

According to police, Pacheco and Estrela was processed on Nov. 4 and then released after posting bail. Andrade did not make bail, and a hearing is scheduled today in his case.

Police said the trio was also responsible for a break-in on South Pier Road on Oct. 26. Pacheco is facing 10 counts of felony breaking and entering, Estrela is facing 11 charges of felony breaking and entering, and Andrade one charge.

Corrigan said an arrest was made thanks to the work of Narragansett police detectives Robert Barber and Ryan Prest, and East Providence police detective Jeffrey Macey.

According to online records, Andrade has three previous arrests.

• Smithfield police felony charges of conspiracy, breaking and entering, and larceny with a value greater than $1,500 are pending. The charges were originally filed in November 2011, and dispositions are scheduled for Dec. 12.
• In November 2011, Andrade pleaded no contest to a Warwick police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine.
• In November 2010, Andrade pleaded no contest to a Warwick police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay court costs.

According to online records, Pacheco has one previous arrest.

• In March 2011, Pacheco pleaded no contest to an East Providence charge of tampering with a motor vehicle. He was ordered to pay court costs and restitution. Additional charges of possession of marijuana, conspiracy and attempted larceny were dismissed.

According to online records, Estrela does not have previous arrests.
