URI Student Charged With Drunken Driving
Katherine A. Solomon, 21, of 7 Whitney Drive, Lincoln, was arrested at about 12:24 a.m. on Sept. 26 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for possession of alcohol while driving. Police said Solomon is a student at the University of Rhode Island.
According to police, they received a report of a silver Jeep swerving while traveling on Route 1 southbound, near Perryville. Police said a Jeep matching the description was found swerving on Route 1, and a traffic stop was made near Ministerial Road.
Police said that when speaking with Solomon, she smelled strongly of alcohol, and repeatedly started and stopped crying because of what she described as relationship issues.
According to police, Solomon submitted to field sobriety tests, which she failed. At that point, she was arrested, and an inventory of her car revealed a bottle of Christian Brothers brandy and a bottle of Cielo Pinot Noir.
Police said that while being processed, Solomon asked repeatedly if her parents would be informed of her arrest. Police told her no, because she was an adult, they would not be notified.
According to police, Solomon consented to chemical breath tests. Police said these revealed blood alcohol levels of .167 at 1:31 a.m. and .174 at 1:33 a.m.
Solomon was processed and then released at about 2:50 a.m.
South Kingstown Woman Arrested for Warrant
Casandra Robinson, 22, of 88 Dam St., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1:19 p.m. on Sept. 26. Police said a Fourth Division District Court warrant was out for Robinson’s arrest.
According to police, Robinson turned herself in to police headquarters and was processed without incident. Police said the charge stemmed from a citation for transportation of alcohol by a minor.
