Massachusetts Man Charged With Drunken Driving, Possession of Marijuana
Shaun Mitchell, 22, of 245 Providence Road, South Grafton, MA, was arrested at about 2:50 a.m. on Oct. 28 and charged with drunken driving and possession of marijuana, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test, driving while in possession of a controlled substance, and driving while in possession of an open container.
According to police, they received a bulletin of an erratic driver in an orange-colored vehicle with a Massachusetts plate. Police located the car near the South County Commons, and noted that it made an illegal U-turn, from the left-hand southbound lane of Route 1 to the northbound lane.
Police said that while attempting to catch up to the car, it was swerving, and traveling between 50 and 65 miles per hour. A traffic stop was made near Arrow Head Trail.
According to police, when they asked Mitchell where he was headed, he told them North Providence, When they asked Mitchell where he was, he allegedly told them, “I’m on Route 146.”
Police said Mitchell consented to field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
According to police, a passenger was in the car, but she was also too intoxicated to drive it. She was also given a ride to police headquarters, but no charges were filed. She claimed to have left an iPhone in the car, but police said it couldn’t be located.
An inventory of the car did reveal a small baggie of marijuana and a nip of vodka, and additional charges were filed as a result. Police said Mitchell refused to submit to a chemical test at headquarters, although he first had a 15-minute debate with officers about whether he should take it or not.
Mitchell was processed and then released at about 10:40 a.m.
