South Kingstown Man Investigated for Receiving Stolen Goods; Bath Salts Found in Car
A 28-year-old South Kingstown man was investigated at about 6:44 p.m. on Jan. 18 for a charge of receiving stolen goods.
According to police, they received a call from a man who had reported his laptop stolen. The man told police that he had seen it advertised on Craigslist, and provided them with the posting.
Police said they arranged to buy the laptop back at the corner of Prospect Avenue and Main Street. Police said a car driven by the suspect arrived at that location, and then left.
As a result, a traffic stop was made on the car on Prospect Avenue. Police said a laptop was in the man’s possession that matched the victim’s laptop, however, the device would not power on, and the serial number was scratched out. As a result, a positive ID could not be made at the time.
According to police, the man could not prove ownership of the laptop, and as a result, it was placed in an evidence locker until its power could be restored and its owner identified.
Police said an inventory of the man’s car also revealed bath salts, which were seized and destroyed. Police after questioning, the man was not formerly charged and he was released at about 9:38 p.m.
Westerly Woman Cited for Suspended License, Insurance
Ivette M. Figueroa, 27, of 2 Knight St., Westerly, was cited at about 7:47 p.m. on Jan. 18 and charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without proper insurance.
According to police, an officer made a traffic stop of Figueroa’s car on Route 1 near Perryville after noting it traveling well below the speed limit. Police said a background check of Figueroa revealed that her license was suspended in September 2012.
Police said Figueroa was processed and then released at about 8:24 p.m. She was also cited for driving without insurance.
