Police Log: Monkey See, Monkey Do
The following reports were provided by the South Kingstown Police Department and describe their actions from Friday, Feb. 10 through the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 13. These reports do not indicate a conviction.
South Kingstown police arrested Melissa A. Kisilywicz, 31, of 65 Pershing Road, on Feb. 11 at 9:27 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
According to reports, Kisilywicz told police she had been at the South Kingstown Police Station just a few minutes earlier to pick up her friend, Heather Anne Chirnside, who was arrested on similar charges just two-and-a-half hours earlier.
Since police had not yet processed Chirnside, Kisilywicz decided to take her 13-year-old daughter in the car with her and drive to D'Angelo's on Old Tower Hill Road to pick up her 4-year-old daughter.
According to reports, two drivers called 911 after they followed Kisilywicz’s Chevy Impala from Broad Rock Road to D'Angelo's. They alleged Kisilywicz swerved and drove up onto the curb on Kingstown Road.
Police caught up the car once it was parked in the D’Angelo’s parking lot and said Kisilywicz smelled of alcohol. She admitted to drinking two draft beers at Rhody Joe’s earlier in the day. Kisilywicz allegedly told police she had gone to Rhody Joe’s after trying to pick up Chirnside from the South Kingstown Police station. Chirnside told police she was at Rhody Joe's that evening too.
Chirnside, 41, of 72 Gough Ave. Apt. 41, of West Warwick, was arrested at 6:59 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence, second offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Chirnside crashed her 2010 Mini Cooper into the median near the Narragansett Avenue East exit on Route 1 north. Paramedics on scene reportedly found three empty liquor bottles and one full, sealed bottle before police arrived. Chirnside allegedly told paramedics she went to Rhody Joe’s on Kingstown Road and drank the three bottles in about an hour. According to police, Chirnside was so unsteady on her feet that they could not conduct field sobriety tests.
