Police Log: Caught With His Pants Down
The following reports were provided by the South Kingstown Police Department and describe their actions from Wednesday, Feb. 1 through the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 3. These reports do not indicate a conviction.
South Kingstown Police arrested Emad A. Makki, 26, of 171 Legend Rock Road, on Friday, Feb. 3 at 1:32 a.m. on a charge of driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown.
Police allegedly watched Makki’s car swerving on Tower Hill Road and attempted to stop his Jeep, but Makki allegedly continued travelling along at 50 miles per hour. According to reports, the officer activated his siren and allegedly saw Makki turning repeatedly to look back at the police cruiser, still without pulling to the side of the road. Eventually Makki stopped his Jeep and police, smelling alcohol on him, asked him to step outside of his car for a field sobriety test. As Makki got out of his Jeep, police said his pants were around his knees. He allegedly told police he had gone to the bathroom at Bon Vue in Narragansett and forgot to pull up his pants. According to reports Makki had difficulty pulling up and zipping his pants. He failed three field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Feb. 16.
Arrested on Bench Warrant
Thomas W. Sanbento, 24, of 155 Stonehenge Road, Kingston, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 10:42 a.m. on an active bench warrant from Fourth Division District Court for failure to appear for payment. He was taken in to Fourth Division District Court for arraignment later that day.
Portsmouth Woman Charged With DUI After Crash
Julie P. Kielbasa, 22, of 124 Taylor Road, Portsmouth, was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Kielbasa had flipped her Jeep Cherokee on Kingstown Road, allegedly trying to avoid a squirrel. She was transported to South County Hospital, but sustained only minor injuries. According to police reports, Kielbasa was extremely talkative with police and gave contradicting and confused statements at times. She was arrested for suspicion of DUI and later refused a blood draw at the hospital. She will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Feb. 9.
Drunken-Driving Charge
Leo M. Murphy, 24, of 32 Border Drive, Wakefield, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 1:36 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police allegedly saw Murphy’s Hyundai Accent swerving on Route 1 south. After police signaled Murphy to stop, he allegedly continued driving for 15 – 20 seconds. According to reports, Murphy told police he drank six beers earlier that night. He then failed four field sobriety tests and was arrested. Police found an empty Corona beer bottle under the passenger’s seat. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Feb. 16.
Repeated Offender
Peter A. Paolozzi, 29, of 24 Lakeview Drive, Narragansett, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 12:28 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was detained due to numerous failures to appear in court, according to reports, and arraigned in Fourth Division District Court later that day.
Felony Assault Charge
Leon Taylor, 29, of 52 Hamilton St. Apt. 1, Providence, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7:31 p.m. and charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon. A court date is not yet scheduled.
DUI Charge
Michael A. Cotugno, 24, of 660 Putnam Pike, Smithfield, was arrested on Wednesday Feb. 1 at 1:29 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, BAC unknown and refusal to submit to a chemical test after he was stopped for speeding on Route 1 north. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Feb. 16.
