Police Log: 'Can I Have My Pipe Back?'
The following arrest information was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department and describes their actions from Monday, Jan. 9 through the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 13. These reports do not indicate a conviction.
A 17-year-old girl was arrested on Monday, Jan. 9 at 4:37 p.m. and charged with possession of marijuana, first offense. A Dixon Street resident called police to report he suspected drug activity in a white car on the corner because he saw bags being passed back and forth and the flare of a lighter.
Police found two women in the car and smelled a pungent odor of marijuana when they went to question them. The minor allegedly admitted to having marijuana in the car – along with a glass pipe and grinder.
“Can I have those back though,” she asked police. Police confiscated all of the drugs and paraphernalia as evidence and cited her for stopping in a roadway. She will appear for a hearing before the state Traffic Tribunal on Feb. 6.
Arrested on Warrant
James W. Pennoyer, 35, of 73 Wright Ave., South Kingstown, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan 11 at 9:03 a.m. on an active bench warrant out of Sixth Division District Court. At an arraignment in Fourth Division District Court later that day, police determined Pennoyer’s warrant to be “quashed” and he was released.
Mark. N. Moone, 41, of 25 Hunt Ave., South Kingstown was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 9 a.m. on a Bench Warrant from Third District Court. He was arraigned later that day.
Lori Corcoran, 49, of 3 Sparrow Drive, Westerly, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 9 at 4:01 p.m. on a South Kingstown warrant for driving under the influence. At the station, police found another active warrant by Westerly Police for another drunken-driving charge. She was transported to Westerly to be processed.
Possession of Marijuana
Alexander A. Ghanem, 19, of 155 Yawgoo Valley Road, Apt. 28C, Exeter, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 6:06 p.m. and charged with possession of marijuana, first offense. Charlestown Police pulled over Ghanem’s car for speeding on Route 1 North in South Kingstown. When South Kingstown Police arrived, reports allege that police smelled marijuana in Ghanem’s car. According to reports police searched the car after seeing a marijuana pipe in plain view and discovered marijuana in the pipe, two joint roaches, a machete and a grinder filled with marijuana. After Ghanem was arrested and transported back to the station, police found $2,655 in cash on him. Ghanem claimed he carried all of him money on him because he did not trust banks.
He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Jan. 26.
Pawn Star
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Monday, Jan. 9 at 2:40 p.m. and charged with receiving stolen goods, a misdemeanor after he admitted to helping a friend sell stolen gold jewelry at a pawn shop. The boy’s mother found more than $7,100 in jewelry and receipts for pawned jewelry in their home. The incident was referred to the town’s Juvenile Hearing Board.
Pet Violations
Kevin J. Leaf, 53, of 29 Harrison Ave., South Kingstown was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 5:08 p.m. and charged with a leash law violation after police found his pit bull running loose on High St. He was fined $25.
Leah M. Sisson, 33, of 68 Willard Ave., South Kingstown, was cited for animal nuisance after a neighbor reported her dog had chased her down the road. She will appear for a hearing in Fourth Division District Court.
Drunken-Driving Charges
Roger D. Barker, 68, of 265B Curtis Corner Road, Peace Dale, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 9 at 11:42 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court on Jan. 23.
