Plan Ahead: Dinner, Sports and Road Work

Here are some important local events to keep in mind while planning your week ahead.

 

Here's a preview of what's in store for South Kingstown during the coming week.

Monday

It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day and that means another three-day weekend for most of us. Schools and town offices will be closed for the day.

If you are looking to do something with your day off, you'll find plenty of excitement in any one of the day's high school sports games.

Come cheer on the lady rebels today at the Girls' Varsity Indoor Track Meet at 9 a.m. at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, 41 Fricker St, Providence. The Boys Varsity Indoor Track Meet kicks off at 6 p.m. Teams representing The Prout School will also compete in the events.

The Prout boys varsity hockey team takes to the ice today at 2:30 p.m. at the Boss Arena, 1 Keaney Road, South Kingstown. The Crusaders will play against Narragansett.

Tuesday

Middle schoole students are in good hands at Curtis Corner Elementary School with its new principal, Patricia Aull, and assistant principal, Jared Vance. If you want to make sure for yourself, head over the school at 8 p.m. for the Parent-Teacher Organization meeting and shake hands with the new principal.

Traffic could become a thing of the past on Route 138 near the University of Rhode Island. A state Department of Transportation project for improvements to the road is underway. The Route 138 Reconstruction Project Area Committee will meet at 4 p.m. at the Town Hall, 180 High St.

The Recreation Commission will meet at 7 p.m. at the Neighborhood Guild, 325 Columbia St., South Kingstown. Click here to view the agenda.

Wednesday

The Zoning Board of Review will meet at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall, 180 High St., South Kingstown. Owners of Phil's Restaurant on Main Street are seeking a special use permit and variance to allow them to expand liquor sales to a proposed deck and theater on the property. If you're looking for a mid-week pick me up, visit Arturo Joe's in Narragansett for its Cigar Dinner tonight. A three-course fine Italian mean is paired with wines and fine Latin cigars all for $65. Please call 789-3230, for more information and to reserve a seat.

Thursday

The South Kingstown High School Wrestling Tournament takes place today in the high school gym, 215 Columbia St., South Kingstown, at 4 p.m. Westerly and Bishop Hendricken will compete against the Rebels.

Friday

The girl's basketball teams at both South Kingstown High School and The Prout School play on Friday at 7 p.m. at their respective gyms.

The South Kingstown/North Kingstown/Narragansett high school girls' hockey team plays at 8 p.m. against the Cranston Co-op at 100 Factory Road in Warwick.

Saturday

The South Kingstown High School Varsity Gymnastics team competes today at 4 p.m. in a meet at Rita Beaulieu Dance and Gymnastics Center, 963 Tiogue Ave, Coventry.

Despite frosty temps, fresh fruits and veggies along with hundreds of other locally produced foods will be available today at the Wintertime Coastal Growers Market. The market features a wide variety of vendors, beginning at 10 a.m. at 650 Ten Rod Rd, North Kingstown.

Sunday

The South Kingstown Firefighters Relief Association will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. at the Union Fire District Administration Building and Training Center, 131 Asa Pond Rd, Wakefield.
