I will have to try Riptides. I am going to go with my town staple, nothing beats the coffee shop breakfast at the bowling alley on a Sunday morning. The food is good and you see everyone in town you want to see.

I vote riptides. The food and staff are great. The menu is huge with classics on one side and amazing different options on the other. Breakfast burritos, chicken and waffles, bagel and lox plate, and the biggest omelets with homemade homefries and toast, you have ever seen. Best of all, on a nice day you can sit outside on the pourch. Come down and check us out...you wont be disappointed

I have to go with variety and freshness...Crazy Burger. Nobody else makes home made hollandaise for eggs benedict. T's was a huge disappointment with no fresh cream or real butter...wth? You have to request it. GMAB. CB buys local & all juice is freshly made to order. T's needs to lose the styrofoam containers, too. Not environmentally friendly at all!!
I will have to look into Riptides...never heard of it.

I just went to Riptides site & they do not have an online menu. Strange. They also need to proof read because in more than one place is says 'dinning' instead of 'dining'. I will have to check it out with my son and see if they are fresh & home made while supporting local farms. Thanks for the tip!!

Kathy, thanks for the insight on the web page, we have tried to change the mistakes and add a menu, however our web guy is hard to nail down(we would love someone to change it, any takers?) We are a local family, use local purveyors for all of our supply needs, and hire local staff .Fresh produce, bread and dairy are delivered almost daily. We love to use local farms, and do shop the farmers markets in season. Our veggies are always fresh, never frozen. Hope this answers some of your questions. Come on in and see for yourself, i dont think our food or menu variety will disapoint.

Thanks Selena! I love to proof read but I know nothing of web design! I'll give Riptides a try bc this really is the first I'm hearing of it. I like the idea of bagels & lox. YUM! Do you have vegan offerings? My two oldest are vegan which as you know means no animal products....not even honey. I will definitely check it out soon. May I ask if your juices are freshly squeezed & if your meats are farm raised? Perhaps a phone call to the restaurant would answer my questions. Thanks again!!

I have been to most of these breakfast places as breakfast is a great meal to eat out. They are all great, but if I have to nail it down to one vote, I vote for Riptide. The menu has allot to choose from, and being a Narragansett native, I do love the beach decor and atmosphere they have there.

I enjoy several of these restaurants for various reasons but have to go with Old Mountain Lanes Coffee Shop for the best because of their many daily specials, willingness to change ingredients for me because of allergies and they have a very friendly staff.

I just called Camdens with a few questions before I try it and they don't even pick up the phone. According to the online menu I'm not seeing too many choices. Are their juices freshly squeezed? Are their burgers freshly made or frozen patties? Are the french fries frozen? Do they buy local produce and dairy? Where is the coffee from? If anyone knows I'd appreciate if you'd share. Freshness is important otherwise I can go to Stop & Shops vast frozen food aisle!

Kathy,
Camden's is their bar/lounge. They open I believe at 11:00am for lunch and dinner. They also have a coffee shop which is where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are many choices and daily specials. They also serve egg whites and egg white omelets. I know of no restaurants who serve fresh squeezed juices. I know the owner of OML/Camdens buys from farmers who come there to sell their vegetables when in season. As for dairy, not sure on this. You seem very particular in what you eat but a bit out of touch in what you deem a restaurant should carry or use. I have read some of your reviews on other restaurants I feel you are quite harsh on many of your reviews and may not understand what it takes to run a restaurant. There are many reasons you cannot have everything fresh as it spoils quickly or the cost would be much higher to the customer who never wants to spend much. Most people who are vegan need to find restaurants that cater to them as it can be very difficult to find items with no eggs, milk, meat products or any of the like. I understand your want of fresh foods but for a restaurant to buy and keep everything fresh, but to be ready in case a customer orders, they would be throwing out a lot of spoiled food which is not only costly but a terrible waste! You do buy everything organic or from farms yourself since you expect it of others I assume!

Charles,
Thanks for the comments. I have two kids who are vegan, Yes, I like fresh food and try to buy organic and minimally processed when possible. You know of no restaurant that serves fresh juice? Crazy Burger does. It's not that hard to squeeze fruit and it tastes much better.
I'm not trying to be harsh but I want to know what I'm getting. Am I getting good coffee grown in fields who practice fair labor practices? What about produce laden with GMO's? If I want McDonald's with their frozen burgers or KFC with their mutant chickens then that's where I'd go. I'm just trying to be a responsible consumer and I've learned to ask questions first. I hear that Dave's is coming to town and they supposedly roast their own coffee and have a syrup in Belmont. Maybe they can be on this list next year!

Charles I do know CB squeezes their own juice but as you say, no others Most of us have no idea where the food comes from in most restaurants but if we have eaten there enough we know whether it is fresh or frozen. You can tell. I wouldn't compare places that are not chains (even Applebees) with other restaurants that are run by local people. Many I know try as much as possible to use fresh foods and local farmers. How many know where their coffee comes from?. They are restaurants who buy in bulk and it most likely is not cost efficient. Dave's does have coffee beans they roast but not sure where they come from. I applaud your care for the environment but I feel most restaurants could not live up to all your expectations. You would need a private chef but all in all I think many here use good quality foods.

* I should not have said MANY .The restaurants I enjoy most are: Spain, Turtle Soup, Basil's (although expensive), Jim's Dock, Matunuck Oyster Bar, Camden's and Kabuki. I am looking forward to trying the new restaurant opening on Kingstown Road that used to be the Pump House. There are some restaurants I stay away from (any known more as a bar). The food is mostly frozen and sub par at best. As I said, you can usually tell by the flavor if the food is fresh or frozen.

@Jennifer-for a few years now I've been getting email updates from United Farm Workers which was founded by Cesar Chavez. The conditions of some places are deplorable & this is why I was wondering about the coffees. When I go to CB my takeout comes in cardboard, same with Matunuck O.B. These places care about sustainability. I was at Matunuck O.B. last night and as you say, the freshness is very obvious. The salad alone was out of this world! Also, I hear that Ocean Mist has a good breakfast so I want to try them. Anyway, I was very disappointed in T's when my leftovers were brought to me in styrofoam. That was the least of the problems with that place, though.
@Tim- I heard about Dave's via facebook. A few of us were discussing iced coffee and I'd never heard of Dave's. I was told that they are going to be where Town Meats was and I think that September or October was the time frame. I'd call their other location to be sure because this was a few months ago so don't quote me. hth

Wow smells like yuppie in here. Not everyone can afford the premium of buying everything organic and fresh squeezed is delicious but I also don't want to pay $5 for a little juice every time I go to breakfast. Crazy burger is great and your line of thinking is the niche that has ended up making them so successful but to expect every other breakfast place to be like them just isn't realistic (just take a look around). Also some people barely have time to eat between work and other obligations, let alone time to research every little thing about their food and debate it online before they grab a bite to eat, and some people just don't have the money to be picky and pay the extra cost most of these "responsible" food options require, especially when it comes to a restaurant and you're simply taking their word for it.

Thank you, Allison--I thought the same thing after reading the previous posts. Why does EVERYTHING have to be so politically correct, vegan, organic, etc., etc.

people that have grown up around here know where to go to eat & drink ,nuff said!! I know thats probably not a politically correct statement but true.
