Narragansett Police Log: January 2 and 3, 2012

A home on Cormorant Point Road isn't haunted… at least according to the landlord. Police deal with a Narragansett man for the second time in a week, thanks to wiener rolls, and they deal with a North Kingstown woman (allegedly) baring her breasts.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Narragansett Man Arrested for Stolen Wiener Rolls, Possibly Stolen iPad

Kyle Nicholas Konopelko, 18, of 31 Banfield Lane, Narragansett, was arrested at about 10:58 a.m. on Jan. 3 and charged with possession of electronic equipment with an altered ID.

According to police, two detectives were stationed in an unmarked vehicle at a Bonnet Shores business. While parked, they noted Konopelko try to enter the front door handle of Kingston Pizza.

Since it was about 10:55 a.m., the business wasn’t open, and a cardboard box was in front of the door. According to police, Konopelko leaned down, opened the box, and took out a package of bread rolls. Police said he shoved the rolls under his hooded sweatshirt and then walked across the street, toward their location.

At that point, the detectives identified themselves and radioed dispatch for a uniformed officer to take over the case. According to police, a search of Konopelko revealed a bag of wiener rolls, a cell phone, a lighter, a pen, a Dunkin’ Donuts gift card and a 32 gig Apple iPad.

The owner of Kingston Pizza did not want to press charges for the rolls. However, police noted that the iPad’s serial number, FCC ID number and MEID number had all been destroyed off the back of the device.

Police asked Konopelko about the iPad, and he told them he had bought it off “some guy” from Craigslist for Christmas. When asked for further information, Konopelko refused to cooperated and asked for a lawyer, police said.

As a result, he was arrested and charged with possession of electronic equipment with an altered ID. He was transported to Fourth Division District Court for arraignment. Police submitted the iPad to the Rhode Island State Crime Laboratory in an attempt to recover the serial numbers.

This was Konopelko’s second arrest of the week. On New Year’s Day, he allegedly threatened a Portsmouth woman with brass knuckles, and police had to cap stun him after he resisted arrest. For more information, view that police log here.

Cormorant Point Road Home Not Haunted

At about 11:55 a.m. on Jan. 2, police filed an information report from a 48-year-old Narragansett man.

According to police, the man told them that a house on Cormorant Point Road is not haunted. The man told police that a family member, a 51-year-old Narragansett man, had told the current tenant that it was haunted.

The landlord told police that the family member was attempting to “get the current tenant to move out so he could move in.” The landlord told police that the current tenant had complained of a cut-open screen door and an open window.

According to the landlord, he just wanted the incident documented because the family member had attempted the same thing in the past in an attempt to extort free rent from the family. Police advised the man to tell his tenant to contact them immediately in the future if something happened.
