Narragansett Woman Charged With Drunken Driving
Jane E. Kernick, 32, of 24 Johnson St., Narragansett, was arrested at 2:09 a.m. on Jan. 13, charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.
A officer traveling behind a yellow Ford Escape on Boston Neck Road by the town beach saw it switching lanes without signaling and swerving, according to reports. As a result, a traffic stop was made after the Sprague Bridge.
Police said that when asked for her license and registration, Kernick tried to hand the officer a birthday card. Police said that while speaking with Kernick, they noticed she smelled strongly of perfume, and there was an open can of Miller Lite in the center console.
Officers noted that her eyes were bloodshot and watery. They also reported finding three empty cans of Miller Lite in her car, and a bottle of McGillicuddy’s Schnapps in her pocketbook.
Police said Kernick consented to field sobriety tests, which she allegedly failed. She was then arrested and transported to police headquarters.
According to police, Kernick refused to submit to a chemical test, which she was cited for, along with failing to use a turn signal and laned roadway violations. Police said she was processed and then released at about 9:54 a.m.
