According to police, the driver – Joester – said she had hit a pothole while driving home from Rhody Joe’s in Wakefield. However, police noted that she was slurring while speaking and avoiding eye contact.

When asked if she had had anything to drink, Joester told police that she had not. Police noted that the car smelled overwhelmingly of perfume. Police asked Joester to complete field sobriety tests.

According to police, as Joester left her car, she had to hold on to the back of it to keep from stumbling. When asked again if she had had anything to drink, Joester told police she had not. Officers said that outside of her perfumed car, her breath smelled strongly of alcohol.

Police noted that Joester had three to four inch heels on, and asked her if she wished to do the tests barefoot, but she declined. According to police, Joester failed the field sobriety tests, and a preliminary breath test revealed her blood alcohol content to be .233.

Joester was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Her car was towed from the scene by Mike’s Towing.

Police said that at headquarters, Joester made a call at about 2 a.m. At about 2:10 a.m., she refused to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, when interviewed following her refusal, Joester told them she had had a Jameson and Ginger at Rhody Joe’s at about 12:45 a.m., and a Jameson and Ginger and a Smirnoff cocktail at the Mews earlier that night. She also told police that she had recently begun taking a prescription medicine and had not slept in two days.
