Narragansett Police Log: February 17 and 18, 2012

A Woonsocket firefighter is charged with driving while intoxicated after police clock his truck at 68 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.

Woonsocket Firefighter Charged With DWI

Thomas M. McGill, 22, of 1489 Ministerial Road, Wakefield, was arrested at about 1:35 a.m. on Feb. 18 and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, an officer spotted a red full-size pick-up truck traveling at a high rate of speed on Point Judith Road near the Westlake Garage. However, he was stopped at the time and couldn’t catch up to it, so a bulletin for the truck was issued.

Another officer spotted a truck matching the description about a minute later on Point Judith Road near Old Point Judith Road. This officer clocked the truck at 68 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.

According to the officer, while attempting to catch up to the truck, he saw it weave between four other cars, trying to pass them and using the breakdown lane at one point. Police said the operator of the truck did not use his turn signal at any point. Police were able to make a traffic stop on Point Judith Road near Westmoreland Street.

Police said that while talking to the driver – McGill – he apologized for speeding, and also told them that he was coming from Charlie O’s, where he had drank five or six beers.

Police noted that when they tried to give McGill back his license, registration and insurance card after running a background check, he tried to give it right back to them three times in the span of one minute.

Police said McGill failed field sobriety tests, and blew a 0.194 on a preliminary breath test. At that point, he was arrested and transported to police headquarters. McGill’s car was towed from the scene.

According to police, McGill made a confidential phone call, after which he refused to submit to a chemical test. He was released at 3 a.m. and issued a March 6 date for Fourth Division District Court. He was also cited for speeding and passing via the right-hand lane.

URI Student Cited for Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor

Christopher R. Pfeiler, 20, of 145 Crestwood Road, Warwick, was cited at about 1:27 a.m. on Feb. 18 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said he is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer stopped Pfeiler’s car on Bridgetown Road near Lakeside Drive after noticing that his rear plate light was out.

Police said that a bottle of alcohol – Admiral Nelson’s Spiced Rum – was visible in the trunk area of the car. According to police, Pfeiler told them that a friend had left it in the car last weekend.

The alcohol was confiscated and disposed of. During the traffic stop, the officer received a 911 call to respond to, and told Pfeiler he would be mailed his summons. He was allowed to drive from the scene.

Loud Party Cleared on Kingstown Road

Police said that at about 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 18, they received a report of an assault on Kingstown Road near Avice Street. While investigating, they noted a loud party at 286 Kingstown Road.

According to police, about 60 to 70 people were at the home, and eight cars were cited for illegal parking on Kingstown Road.

Police said the renters – Benjamin Parkin and Nicholas N. Colonese, both 21 – signed the public nuisance form. The report was forwarded to the community policing unit. The property is managed by Durkin Realty.

South Kingstown Police Charge Narragansett Woman With Possession of Marijuana

According to a report on , Nancy J. Kennedy, 44, of 239 Foddering Farm Road, Narragansett, was arrested at 6:08 p.m. on Feb. 18 and charged with possession of marijuana and driving in possession of a controlled substance

South Kingstown police said they stopped her car for making an illegal u-turn on Old Tower Hill Road. She will be arraigned in Fourth Division Court on March 1.
