Newport Man Arrested for Warrant, Cited for Alcohol
Jesse B. Botelho, 21, of 22 Catherine St., Apt. #1, Newport, was arrested at about 11:50 p.m. for a Second Division District Court warrant and cited for violating the town’s open container laws. Police said the warrant stemmed from a charge of disorderly conduct.
According to police, they received a report of a loud party at 11 Cavalier Avenue. Police said as they were breaking up the party, a partygoer threw a full can of beer at a police cruiser.
The identity of the person was not discovered by police. Police said the beer can cracked a rain guard but otherwise did minimal damage to the cruiser.
Police said that as they were inspecting the damage from the can, Botelho was within vision of the cruiser. Police said he then reached into his pocket for a bottle of Sky vodka and drank from it.
According to police, at this point they informed Botelho of the town’s open container ordinances, and he was cited. However, a background check revealed the warrant, and he was arrested without incident.
