MOM CONGRESS: What To Do About Pizza? [POLL]
Lynne wants to know – Is Domino’s OK for school service?
Day 1 – After the typical icebreaker, get to know ya stuff, we were inspired by real life tales of schools in 39 states partnering with Domino's Pizza Smart Slice Program to improve quality of school lunches, increase participation by the student population, program qualifies as NSLP reimbursable, AND even increasing school profitability in the process!
Now I had to admit that given South Kingstown’s wide variety of exceptional non-corporate run independent and families franchised pizza places, and previous taste experiences with Domino's, I didn't think much of it, but I have to admit I kept lining back up at the Smart Slice Buffet for more!
Chartwell’s, if you're reading this, just letting you know, we have to talk when I get back because Domino's definitely trumps the not so fun "cold pizza bagel fun lunch" hands down!
Visit the Domino’s school lunch site here and learn more about the nutrition facts then tell me what you think. Is this something you might like to see in SK scools?

How can this help the awareness of t2 diabetes and other obesity related diseases..sure it tastes ok but this is blatant corporate branding in our schools. Why

@ Mike - I think one issue is whether it's better or worse that you dance with the devil you've heard of vs. the one you're not really sure about. For example, I imagine more people are familiar with Domino's than the food service company I had when attending Chariho in 2002, Aramark. However, at least according to Wiki, Aramark is actually the bigger corporation, with revenues of $12.57 billion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramark
I'm not actually sure what Narragansett and SK use for food service, but the company cited by Lynne - Chartwells - is apparently owned by the Compass Group, a London company. If you want to go all-local or all-organic with the school food, it's probably going to take quite a bit of money, and the political will for that in both towns seems low.

I'm with Mike on this. The prevalence of unhealthy food options in schools is terrible. School are a place of learning yet they are teaching bad eating habits. To add corporate branding to an already bad situation just seems like selling out.
Call me a romantic but, when I was young, you were served healthy food that was made at the school and you had to bring your own sweets and junk food. Now it almost seems to be the opposite.

Aramark (bad food by the way) and the Compass group....icky as the food may be....are food service providers..not retail sellers. Big dif when dealing with the branding concept.
