LETTER: SK’s Cotter Supports Tanzi
The chairwoman of the South Kingstown School Committee is endorsing Teresa Tanzi for another term.
To the editor,
It is important to hold incumbents accountable for their elected service; it is also important to recognize incumbents who merit another term.
This election year, Teresa Tanzi is an incumbent who merits being re- elected to serve District 34 in the RI General Assembly House of Representatives.
In my experience, Teresa clearly demonstrated a pro-active approach. She could be seen at school committee and Town Council meetings as well as other community meetings throughout her two-year term. She was accessible, constituent concerns were listened to and heard, and legislative remedies were pursued.
As a freshman, Teresa quickly established herself as a credible legislator. She was deeply involved in the issues sponsoring and co-sponsoring bills ranging from the environment to education to economics to farming and fishing, to health care, and more.
In particular, I would like to acknowledge Teresa’s courageous vote to support pension reform. I cannot recall a more high profile, more contentious issue for our state in the past decade. The impact of no pension reform would likely have resulted in serious negative consequences for education funding.
I thank Teresa for stepping up to the plate - the pension reform enables us to continue the high quality education program our community values.
Teresa Tanzi is an energetic, capable, and progressive candidate whose record affirms that she is well-qualified to serve District 34 for a second term in the RI General Assembly House of Representatives.

Teresa Tanzi does everything right, and she does it well. She is an effective representative for her district, and unlike her predecessor, she actually lives in her district. She deserves to be re-elected for the simple reason that the people of District 34 deserve an honest and effective leader.

David, couldn't agree more. I see Teresa out in the community, working with small business owners and seeing how she can help constituents, all the time. Best local representation I've felt like I've gotten in a while. She's gotta win!

Word around Peace Dale is that the Foreman family is supporting Wilkens... they are not pleased with the way Tanzi handled herself during the bill. Sad. It goes to character.

Tanzi's agenda is the environment and transportation issues. She voted for the bloated budget and has been a rubber stamp for the democrat machine and the NEA who put her in there. Let's limit this nonsense to one term for the good of the town.

An examination of four crucial votes – three on amendments, and the final up-or-down vote to pass it – shows 40 lawmakers broke with House Speaker Gordon Fox and his team on at least one of them. That means a majority of the House’s 75 legislators voted against the pension bill that was originally hammered out by the state’s leaders.
Five of the 40 rebel lawmakers – Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, Karen MacBeth, John Savage, Teresa Tanzi and Donna Walsh – voted for all three so-called “poison pill” amendments, yet supported the bill on the final vote. They can tell their constituents they backed the full Raimondo-Chafee pension law, even though they voted to change it significantly.

Hi, I am too busy with my kids to pay much attention but I know one thing... Teresa has never had to work full-time outside the home and try to pay her bills. She doesn't understand that my husband is working at a low-level job because he was laid off and we are killing ourselves to pay a mortgage. If I hear "closing loopholes" once more, I will scream.. it's gobblydygook for taking more money from the few businesses that stay here. I do not want Teresa overtaxing the company I work at: CVS and before that, Job Lot. Enough of this. 75 years of Democrat control has brought us to last place.. I'm worn out from it... let's try the other party... and believe me, I am not a republican... I just want my husband to find decent work.

As far as the pension reform goes: My husband and I don't have pensions... I am worn out from being worried about other people's pensions... I know they've worked hard, etc... but enough is enough. Teresa is backed by unions... and will do their bidding... she only voted for pension reform because they had no choice.

Teresa has represented us well! I've found her to be hard-working and committed, and never partisan, just community-minded. I feel very confident she has our best interests at heart and works for us up there at the State House and back here.

Cotter, the Fogartys, Tanzi--lump them all in because they are all one big ol mess. Tanzi is loathed by the fishing community yet she touts her pair trawling bill which is for one year and means absolutely nothing. Teresa's big problem: her own fluffed up sense of self-importance. Au revoir.

However, my main objection to Rep. Tanzi is that I work in a group home. I cannot understand why any state representative would have voted AGAINST restoring money in the state's budget to people who are developmentally challenged... I can't stand the term "developmentally disabled" because these wonderful people can be "enabled" and capable if they are provided the help they need. Rep. Tanzi has some explaining to do on this one before I can vote for her again. Fool me once, ...
