Dunkin' Brands Takes Stand Against Obamacare

The company is lobbying the White House to changes its definition of full-time work from 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, according to reports.

Dunkin' Brands has joined the fight against Obamacare

The coffee and baked goods company is working to overturn a major provision of Obamacare, according to a Newsmax.com report this week.

Specifically, Dunkin' is lobbying the White House to change its definition of full-time work from at least 30 hours a week to 40 or more per week, CEO Nigel Travis told the Financial Times, according to The Huffington Post.

The change would leave Dunkin', as well as other companies, with fewer workers to insure under the health care reform law, which requires large employers to provide health coverage to all full-time workers and their dependents. Those companies who fail to provide coverage could face a penalty of $2,000 per worker. The mandate applies to every company with 50 or more full-time employees.

What do you think? Do you support the move by Dunkin' Brands? Let us know in the comments section below.

Dunkin brands would rather pay their employees minimum wage and count on the government to provide its workers with healthcare while they rake in unheard of wealth. Seems legit.

Almost no retailer gives employees 40 hours of work. That's why many work 2 or more jobs to survive. 40 hours at $8.00 per hour= $320 x52 weeks = poverty

Obama Care = Boondoggle

dana, are you ready to pay for $5.00 donuts? There's also other options than just your employer or the government to supply you with insurance.

gene, working the counter at DD shouldn't be a career move. If you don't like living in poverty, improve yourself and your prospects for work and move on.

I didn't say I agree or disagree with obamacare. I do however see the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. As far as dunkin not being a career move? Why not? Do you believe every person should work in corporate America and earn six figures? What about the man who cleans your children's school and earns $10 an hour or the single mom who pours coffee for a living while putting herself thru grad Schiller ( ahem). Whatever you do, as Long as its an honest living, its fine by me. It sure as Hell beats popping out kids and depending on the rest of us to feed house and provide for you. I'm no socialist, but I'm tired of hearing about these multi million dollar companies wine about social justice. I'm tired of bans too big to fail whining about bail outs and throwing families faced with uncontrollable hardship out on the street. That's all.
