Are you looking to experience some unique tastes beyond the typical burgers and fries, or that generic fast food?

Hey, let’s be honest, editor to reader – It’s hot as heck out there, so who wants to cook in 90-degree weather? I never produce anything of quality when my kitchen environment matches the temperature of the oven.

With that in mind, don’t be shy to test out some of the different food options available in Narragansett, and South County (or if you’re a stickler for formality, Washington County) as a whole. Here are just a few suggestions to get you going:

Asian/Eastern Cuisine: New Dragon

The best Chinese food in town is, appropriately enough, right at the main entrance for most visitors. New Dragon on Point Judith Road features the “traditional” larger portions that I grew up with, so I tend to favor them over other places.

However, I’ve also heard good things about Ocean View, which is a bit trickier to find. It is nestled in the back of Mariner Square, past Pancho’s and Arturo Joe’s. And if you’re looking for sushi and highly-refined, classical fare, you have to check out Seven Moons in North Kingstown.

You Don’t Have To Speak Spanish: Spain

When it comes to fine dining in Narragansett, one restaurant’s name continually pops up – Spain. The food is European style, and the restaurant has earned rave reviews over the years. It can be a bit pricy, making it more appropriate for a special occasion than an everyday spot, but the food is worth it.

The Kind-Of Cool Place You Can Bring Anyone: Crazy Burger

Confession – I’ve been on multiple dates to Crazy Burger. It’s not hard to figure out why though.

With its low lighting and expansive yet casual menu, it’s a good place to cater to different tastes. When going out with someone for the first time, this is an important consideration. While Crazy Burger has four or five all-beef patties, they also have a full menu of vegetarian fare, breakfast items, smoothies and vegan-friendly food.

Don’t Forget This Seafood Place: Champlin’s

When I first did the shout-outs for the Passport series, one recommendation I received from reader Michael Hechren was Champlin’s in Galilee. With all of the options for that sort of fare in town, it’s sometimes easy to overlook Champlin’s.

Looking for something more casual? Aunt Carrie’s, Iggy’s and Monahan’s offer most of the classic seafood – lobster rolls, fried clams, clam cakes, chowdah – in a more casual fashion, and their locations make for easy walking.

Looking for something equally, uh, sitdown-ish? Right near Champlin’s is George’s of Galilee.

However, I’d stress that with seafood in Narragansett, all of these places have been around for years for a reason. Don’t be shy to experiment with different spots, since for most, it comes down to personal preference as far as their favorite place.
