Democratic Town Committee Looking for November Candidates

The election season is quickly approaching.  Even though the actual election takes place in November, the election process begins June 25 with the opening of the Declaration of Candidacy period.

South Kingstown voters will be electing five candidates for town council and four on to school committee. In order to prepare for the election, the South Kingstown Democratic Town Committee has announced that David Napier will chair the newly appointed outreach committee with help from members Ann Marie McGarty and Christopher Bergner.

In preparation for the declaration period, the SKDTC will be interviewing any Democrat who is interested in running for local office. 

“We would like anyone who might be interested in running to give us a call and we will explain the process and send you a short application,” Napier said. “Once the applications have been received, we will set up interviews with the potential candidates. When the interviews are complete, the committee will vote on a slate of candidates for endorsement.”

Bergner said, “Over the years, we have heard from people after the fact who were interested in running but weren’t aware of the process and the corresponding deadlines.  We have decided to reach out to anyone who is interested and make it easier for them to get on the ballot.”
