Curtis Corner Middle School will be starting 2012 with a new principal. Patti Aull, who has been principal at Tiverton Middle School for seven years, handed in her letter of resignation recently and will begin as principal at Curtis Corner when classes resume Jan. 3.
Aull says there isn’t one specific reason she decided to resign and move to Curtis Corner; she is just looking for a change.
“I am looking for a new challenge because often times being an administrator in the same district can get very comfortable,” Aull said. “New blood in the school is always a good idea.”
Aull received her undergraduate degree in mathematics and secondary education from Salve Regina University. She received her master’s degree in administration from Providence College.
She is coming to South Kingstown after years of experience in schools across the state. Aull first started teaching math and computers at Middletown High School and later became the assistant principal at Mt. Hope High School in Bristol. Before becoming principal at Tiverton Middle School in 2008, she was the assistant principal at Coventry High School.
In the short term, Aull said she simply wants to get to know the staff and students at Curtis Corner.
“I want to find out what our priorities will be and find out where the successes and strengths are,” Aull said. “I also want to work with the staff to figure out long-term goals and what our priorities are.”
Aull is part of a new leadership team at Curtis Corner, with an assistant principal having been installed within the last year. She said she hopes they can develop new goals together.
Aull says she loves working in a school because of the challenges that come up and how every day is different.
“I enjoy being able to help students find and make the best choices for their future and I also love helping teachers be the best they can be,” Aull said. “Hopefully we can be the best team we can be at Curtis Corner this year.”
When not working at the school, Aull is often horseback riding on her farm in Portsmouth with her husband and seven year-old daughter.
