Other facts
I have been a practicing attorney for 26 years, engaged in the following areas of law - automobile accidents, personal injury, divorce and child support, criminal defense including DUI and refusal to take chemical test, real estate, wills and probate. Licensed to practice in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
The most challenging issue in South Kingstown is the balancing act between keeping taxes low while providing quality services. Maintaining an excellent educational system, supporting senior services, preserving our environment, open space acquisitions, revitalizing historic villages, providing public safety and municipal programs such as Parks and Recreation and paving roads are expensive undertakings. This year we were able to maintain these high quality services with a ZERO tax increase.
I have been a South Kingstown Town Councilwoman for the past four years and the economic conditions for Rhode Island have been grim, but in spite of the economy I have seen a positive change in our community. I have worked to promote economic development, which has translated into a stronger and livelier center of Wakefield, with more bars and restaurants, and a stronger arts community. We were even in a Hollywood Movie (Moonrise Kingdom).
Economic development increases tax revenue and decreases the burden on our taxpayers. I will work with local businesses, including the University of Rhode Island and South County Hospital, in an effort to encourage economic growth and promote a business friendly environment.
Investing in our children means providing funding to ensure that South Kingstown maintains and improves on its’ excellent schools and delivers high quality education. The future of our town requires us to invest in our children and to provide them with a great education to compete in an ever-changing and complex world. This year our educational system has maintained its’ high rankings with a ZERO tax increase.
The town has engaged in various projects, which were grant-funded and resulted in the reduction of our carbon footprint and decreased energy costs. I will promote energy conservation efforts to protect our planet and provide energy savings.
I have been active in finding solutions to the health and safety issues that face Matunuck residents due to erosion. I support collaboration of services with other entities to reduce town spending. I will continue to advocate in support of the town’s efforts to acquire state and federal funding for municipal projects, such as the paving of High Street and the construction of the Wakefield Intermodal Facility. I support innovative ideas and solutions to seize new opportunities for savings. If re-elected as a town councilwoman, I will continue these efforts and more to bring positive change to South Kingstown.

A Juris Doctorate is not a PhD!

Hi Tom - I've edited to correct the discrepancy, since I believe it just asks about "advanced degrees" on the submission form.

I agree with you. I believe the PhD came from the format that the Patch uses.

I will strat by stating I have no idea whatsoever who Bill Nutch is or how he obtained my post. That having been stated, however I would like to fully and sincerel apologize to the McEntees for my ill suited, untrue, and extremely hurtful words. I was having a VERY bad day, and I'm afraid my pain meds got the better of me. I have nothing but the utmost respect for both the McEntees and Ella Whaley, and certainly did not wish to harm them in any way. I will be working for them to get re-elected and and carry on their service to our community as part of my atonement. Again, my sincerest apologies. Kevin Ryan

I've deleted a comment from the site for two reasons, both related to a copy-paste.
1) We don't allow large blocks of copy-paste because it's usually a copyright violation from the other site.
2) Along similar lines, it was a copy-paste without a link to the original post, making it impossible for the reader to judge the veracity of the source.

Given that this profile is about Carol McEntee, I've deleted several comments that are about another politician and one of their family members. If the commentators would really like to comment on length about that issue, feel free to submit a letter to the editor to stephen.greenwell@patch.com. Thanks!

With Kathy Fogarty and Polly Eddy leaving, the South Kingstown Town Council is run by one person: Jim O'Neil. All this is just noise. The Council will go in whatever direction he wants it too, because he has both Carol McEntee and Ella Whaley firmly in his pocket as Quid Pro Quo for their positions on the Council. The real question is, and what really matters, is what direction will O'Neil take it now?
