Both the Narragansett Mariners and the Prout Crusaders have advanced in their respective playoff series, beating Ponganset and Middletown in the process.
The Mariners, the No. 4 seed in the Division III boys’ hockey playoffs, swept No. 5 Ponagansett in their best-of-three series. On Friday, Narragansett opened the series with a 6-1 win, according to stats at Rhode Island High School Hockey.
Goals by the Mariners – Robbie Pratt unassisted, Dylan Jardon from Pratt, Connor McKnight unassisted, McKnight from Jardon, Kurt Richardson unassisted, and McKnight from Pratt and Henry McGreen.
In game two, Narragansett took a 1-0 first period lead, thanks to a goal from Brody Wise, with the assist by Richardson. In the second, Jardon had two goals, with McGreen assisting on each.
The Mariners closed it out with a goal by Andy Morvan – assisted by Alex Burroughs – and a goal by McKnight, assisted by Jardon. The final Narragansett goal was scored by Pratt, assisted by Wise and Tom Adamo.
Narraganett starts its series with No. 1 seeded West Warwick at 9 p.m. Friday at the West Warwick Ice Rink. Game two is at the Boss Ice Arena, 6 p.m. Saturday, and if needed, game three will be Monday, March 11, at a site to be determined.
In the Division II playoffs, No. 2 Prout closed out a series 2-1 with No. 7 Middletown with a win Monday night.
According to stats at Rhode Island High School Hockey, Prout won the opener 4-1, but dropped the second game 2-1. According to The South County Independent and The Newport Daily News, the Crusaders won the final game 3-1 at the Boss Ice Arena on Monday night.
With the win, Prout moves on to the semifinals. They face No. 3 North Kingstown Friday at the Boss Ice Arena, after the Skippers survived their own “loser goes home” match with North Smithfield.
