5 THINGS: Skating, Food Drive and Tango

Honestly, there isn’t much on our calendar for today. Maybe you have suggestions?

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Tuesday, December 11, 2012:

“Tact is the ability to tell someone to go to Hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip.” – Winston S. Churchill. Here are today’s government meetings:

  • The Narragansett Tax Assessment Board of Review meets at 9:30 a.m. at town hall.
  • The Narragansett Historic District Commission meets at 6 p.m. at town hall.
  • The South Kingstown Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. at town hall.
  • The Galilee Advisory Committee meets at 7 p.m. at town hall.

“Figure skating is an unlikely Olympic event but its good television. It’s sort of a combination of gymnastics and ballet. A little sexy too, which doesn’t hurt.” – Andy Rooney. It’s not quite figure skating, but there is public skate today at the Boss Ice Arena from noon to 2 p.m. For rates and more information, click here.

Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s National Tango Day in Buenos Aires. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).

Give the gift of food this holiday season. Children’s Dentistry of Wakefield is having a food drive from now until Dec. 19. For more info, click here.

Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!

Then a couple hundred years later, they stole the color of their uniforms from URI. On this day in 1789, the University of North Carolina received its charter.

You were awesome in True Grit, and holy smokes, you’re still only 16? Happy birthday to Hailee Steinfeld! And like I said, True Grit is a pretty good remake, right on par with the original, and Steinfeld’s acting really steals the show, along with Jeff Bridges.

About this column: Check out these five awesome things! Yay! (Also, tell five friends, and get them to tell five friends, and then hopefully their five friends will tell five friends and...) Related Topics: Five Things, Narragansett Five Things, and South Kingstown Five Things
