5 THINGS: Political Movies, Debates and Meetings
Just because Garfield hates Mondays, that doesn’t mean you have to as well.
Here are the (more than) Five Things for Monday, October 22, 2012:
Followed by the less well-received All The King’s Horses. The Peace Dale Library is showing All The King’s Men at 2 p.m. The event is free. This is the original 1949 version, which has a 7.6 rating on IMDB, vs. the 2006 remake, which only has a 6.0.
Ahhh spooky! The Courthouse Center for the Arts turns into the Haunted Courthouse at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Courageous parenting at South Kingstown High School tonight. The second session in the Courage to Speak program – Courageous Parenting 101 – is tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Looking to watch the Presidential debate with others? The Pell Center at Salve Regina University in Newport is hosting a forum and viewing of the debate. Doors open at 8 p.m. and close at 11 p.m.
“Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke.” – Will Rogers. Here are today’s government meetings:
- The Housing Authority of South Kingstown meets at 5 p.m. in the Housing Authority Office.
- A Narragansett Town Council work session on the Middlebridge property has been postponed. A meeting to file a special report from the Town Administrator Search Committee is still scheduled for 6 p.m.
- The South Kingstown Recreation Commission meets at 7 p.m. at the Neighborhood Guild.
- The South Kingstown Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. A work session is at 6:45 p.m.
Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s International Stuttering Awareness Day. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).
Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!
The name change was probably a smart move. On this day in 1746, the College of New Jersey received its charter. You might recognize it by its more common name today – Princeton University.
Hopefully, he is not watching you poop. Happy 60th birthday to Jeff Goldblum! While you might know him from his roles in Jurassic Park, Law and Order: Criminal Intent or Independence Day, never forget his own Internet meme.
