Here are the (more than) Five Things for Thursday, December 20, 2012:
It’s the budget season, catch the fever! The first budget planning session between the South Kingstown Town Council and the South Kingstown School Committee is at 7 p.m. at town hall. (It’s kind of a big deal, you know.) For a lot more info on the process, including PDFs of timetables, check out the front page of the town’s website.
Prout’s Eric Rameika goes for 1,000th point on Friday night. Thanks to the tip from Bill Storey, who notes that the captain is nine points away from 1,000. The Crusaders host Lincoln at 7 p.m. Friday, and there is a good chance he gets the honor then, since he’s averaging 27.8 points per game, according to Storey.
“Figure skating is an unlikely Olympic event but its good television. It’s sort of a combination of gymnastics and ballet. A little sexy too, which doesn’t hurt.” – Andy Rooney. It’s not quite figure skating, but there is public skate today at the Boss Ice Arena at noon. For rates and more information, click here. The skating gives way to hockey at noon.
“Every now and then you have to get away from that ugly Old Politics trip, or it will drive you to kicking the walls and hurling AR3's into the fireplace.” – Hunter S. Thompson. Besides that big budget meeting in South Kingstown, here are the other government meetings today:
- The South Kingstown Assessment Board of Review meets at 9 a.m. at town hall.
- South Kingstown Probate Court is being held at 2 p.m. at town hall.
- The Narragansett Town Council meets at 6 p.m. at town hall in the large boardroom for a work session on current town issues and to discuss the Deepwater Wind project in executive session.
Has the time or date or details of one of your events changed? If you posted the event yourself on our site, then remember – You can always change the details if you’re logged into your Patch account. Failing that, leave a comment on the item in question! The issue is that lately, people have been e-mailing me, and depending on the time of the day, it can take me anywhere from 30 minutes or 30 hours to get to the item, unfortunately. As a result, I encourage you all to be as proactive as possible!
Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s International Human Solidarity Day. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).
Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!
Bollocks! On this day in 2004, there was a big European bank robbery. Read more about it here.
