Here are the (more than) Five Things for Thursday, June 14, 2012:
Do or die for Prout, South Kingstown. Both the Rebels and Crusaders have their backs against the wall in their respective baseball finals. On Wednesday, the Rebels lost 12-2 to Hendricken, and Prout lost 11-1. Both teams have an immediate chance for redemption though, as they play at 6:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. today at McCoy Stadium. If either team forces a third game, it would be played Friday, with a chance of a game on Saturday depending on weather and graduation ceremonies.
Déjà vu. South Kingstown also faces Hendricken for the Division I volleyball title. The Hawks and Rebels spike off (because it’s volleyball, get it?) 7:30 p.m. today at the Providence Career and Technical Academy. SK beat Coventry 3-1 on Tuesday night. World’s largest human pizza? There will be an event for Hunger Awareness Day from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight, which includes an attempt at the world’s largest human pizza. For more info, click here.
Lifeguard testing at Scarborough Beach. Surf tests will be happening at Scarborough today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more info, click here.
Veterans – Join American Legion! Post #39 is hosting its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at the Guild. The meeting is open to any U.S. veteran that would like to join the legion and help out the community.
Note: Not about old phones. The Rotary Club of Wakefield meets at Liliana’s Italian Restaurant at 12:15 p.m. today. For more information, click here.
I would like to receive your periodical on a full-time daily basis. If that's the case, then you can get it in your e-mail box, bright and early each morning, by going here.
Blogging, events, letters, what more could you want? Many people often ask me, “Hey are you the Patch guy?” And the answer is yes, yes I am. Then, most often they want to know how they can get things on the site. Let me present you with three options:
- The easiest way for me is if you use our blog form. If you have a user account, congrats! You can submit directly to our queue by going here. For more info on blogging, go here.
- If you think your item is more appropriate for the events calendar, that's a simple enough process as well. Go here, and then hit the “Add An Event” button at the bottom of the page. (Note: You might want to search for your event first, since we do have a calendar editor that adds things on her own awesome initiative.)
- Finally, do you need some input before posting? Or do you have a release that is more of a traditional “letter to the editor” thing? Fine then – send it along to me, either at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
The truth is out there. On this day in 1947, one of the Roswell UFO incidents allegedly happened. Perhaps coincidentally – or is it? – the Mariner 5 space program was launched toward Venus on this day in 1967.
Banter banter banter astute observation banter banter. Happy 33rd birthday to Diablo Cody, best known for the script for Juno. Her Wikipedia page is here, but warning, there is some raw language on it.
