Here are the Five Things for Thursday, February 9:

Learn the ancient art of yoga! I believe yoga was first discovered in the Himalayans, which were named thusly because of the Mayans there. (Hence why both of those words end in-ayans.) The stretching helped the Mayans stay warm, and thus they avoided the Yeti and the Abominable Snow Monster of the North. Don’t believe me? Well, I guess you’ll just have to go to the free class at 6 p.m. today at Maury Loontjens Memorial Library to get information to refute me. I’m pretty sure I’ve got it down pat though.

Sporting results are indeed sporting. The only event on the schedule tonight is wrestling – the high school meet originally meant to take place Wednesday night has been shifted to tonight, according to the RIIL schedule. Wednesday results:

• According to a box score from The Providence Journal, the Narragansett girls’ basketball team (15-2, 13-1 Division II-South) had no trouble with winless Toll Gate (0-16, 0-14 Division II-South), beating the Titans 53-25. I doubt anyone will remember the Titans after a game like that. (ha ha ha?) Abby McKanna had 15 points for the Mariners, with Raquel Harris chipping in 11 and Peaches Griffith eight.
• Results from the Prout School’s girls’ basketball game with Tiverton were unreported to both the RIIL and The Providence Journal.
• The Prout School girls’ swimming team (4-1, 4-1 Division I) beat Mount St. Charles (0-5, 0-5 Division I), 51-41. The boys’ swimming team (3-4, 3-4 Division I) also beat Mount (2-5, 2-5 Division I), 50-44.

“Yes, my good man, I’ll have the milk steak, boiled over hard, and your finest jelly beans, raw.” On this day in 1976, actor Charlie Day was born. You probably know him from the hilarious and incredibly profane It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Interestingly enough though, he does have a local connection – He grew up in Middletown, and graduated from Portsmouth Abbey, because his father teaches at Salve Regina. (By the way, I can’t think of a more straight-laced-looking guy for the father of Charlie Day than Thomas Day, wow.)
