Here are the (more than) Five Things for Wednesday, January 16, 2013:
“If our founding fathers wanted us to care about the rest of the world, they wouldn’t have declared their independence from it.” – Stephen Colbert. Here are today’s government meetings:
- The South Kingstown Town Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at town hall with the school committee to have a work session on the 2013-14 Capital Improvement Program.
- The Narragansett School Committee meets at 7 p.m. at town hall.
“If you can make a woman laugh, you’re seeing the most beautiful thing on God’s Earth.” – Keanu Reeves, of all people. You can take lessons in the great art of acting from the Contemporary Theater Company today at 5 p.m. For more info, click here.
Want to see the Boston Celtics play? The Neighborhood Guild is planning a trip for Feb. 10, when the Celtics play the Denver Nuggets. The final payment deadline is Jan. 25, but the tickets (39 of them) are first come, first served. For more info, click here.
Register for South Kingstown Little League or Softball! Want to play Little League this year? Cool, click here! Is slow pitch softball more your speed? Cool, click here! Both leagues offer early bird specials if you register in January instead of February, so don’t dawdle!
Has the time or date or details of one of your events changed? If you posted the event yourself on our site, then remember – You can always change the details if you’re logged into your Patch account. Failing that, leave a comment on the item in question! The issue is that lately, people have been e-mailing me, and depending on the time of the day, it can take me anywhere from 30 minutes or 30 hours to get to the item, unfortunately. As a result, I encourage you all to be as proactive as possible!
Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s the anniversary of the birthday of Rene I of Naples in 1409. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).
Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!
Before he became czar though, he was known as just mildly discomforting. On this day in 1547, Ivan the Terrible became the czar of Russia.
Enjoy your birthday now, Joe. Happy 28th birthday to Joe Flacco! I wish you nothing but bad things this weekend though.
