Here are the (more than) Five Things for Wednesday, August 22, 2012:
Ding ding ding goes the trolley. A historic trolley tour of Narragansett leaves from the Towers at 10 a.m. The cost is just $10!
“Once upon a time…” It’s storytime for 3 to 5-year-olds at the Peace Dale Library, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Learn all about Dewey Decimal, and his system. There are various library training sessions today. At 11 a.m., there is a how-to class for the library catalog system at Maury Loontjens Memorial Library in Narragansett. At 1 p.m., there is a training session on downloading eBooks at the Kingston Free Library.
Senior services. There is one senior group meeting today. The South Kingstown Veterans Group meets at the South Kingstown Senior Center at 11 a.m.
“I love acting. It is so much more real than life.” – Oscar Wilde. The Contemporary Theatre Company is offering acting classes at 5 p.m. The cost is $10.
Cruising but not for bruisings. It is Cruise Night at Aunt Carrie’s in Narragansett, starting at 5 p.m. This refers to classic cars, and not those trips Kathie Lee used to hawk. Check out some classic cars and classic clamcakes.
Mmm hot dogs… There is a hike at Weeden Farm on Matunuck Beach Road, followed by a hot dog roast! Yummy! The fun stats at 5 p.m.
A gallery benefit show! There is a gallery show of Stephanie Parker’s work to benefit the Courthouse Center for the Arts. The exhibit is on display until Sept. 9, and open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
DANGER WILL ROBINSON! Starting in early September, we’re going to be phasing out the adding of new calendar events by our staff. This means that if you’re from a group or organization, you’ll have to start doing them yourself. It’s pretty simple, though! While logged into your Patch account, just go here. Adding your event ensures it’ll show up in searches, and be eligible for me to give it shout-outs in Five Things.
Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!
“Success is never final, but failure can be.” Happy 70th birthday to Bill Parcells!
