Here are the (more than) Five Things for Friday, May 11, 2012:
Mmm! Ice cream social! Matunuck Elementary School will be hosting its annual ice cream social at 6 p.m. tonight. Speaking as a former elementary school student myself, this is always by far the best event of the year.
But maybe you’d prefer castin’ and fishin’. There is a family fishing derby tonight from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Old Mountain Field pond. The rain date is Saturday. The fee is $5 for residents and $8 for non-residents.
Buy yourself a Venus fly trap, or even better, a Mercury fly trap. There is a plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the URI Greenhouse today. For more info, go here.
There probably actually is some nonsense at Nunsense, just as a warning. The production is being staged at the Courthouse Center for the Arts in West Kingston at 7 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $15. For more information, click here.
Check out some wonderful photography. Downstairs from Nunsense, that is. The photography gallery of Howard Rubenstein is free to view. The galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Way cooler than Johnny Quest. The anime and magna club will hold a meeting at 3:30 p.m. at the Peace Dale Library. For more info, click here. Students in grades 7 and up are welcome, and there will be the watching and drawing of anime, along with other fun times. Also, the club is free, which is always a plus.
“Frosty Drew” would also be a wonderful name for an ice cream place. Each Friday, the Frosty Drew Observatory in Charlestown holds a free public observation night. You can head on over around 7:30 p.m., you know, when it gets dark out. For more info, click here.
Register for Narragansett or South Kingstown summer camp! Narragansett Parks and Recreation is now taking registrations for its summer camp program, which begins June 25. The cost is $135, and the camp typically runs into late August. South Kingstown is also holding registrations, and to see their summer camp guide, go here.
Blog blog blog blog blogggggg. At Narragansett-South Kingstown Patch, we’re always looking for new bloggers, despite our obnoxiously long name. If you’d like free exposure for your existing blog, or simply want to start writing, feel free to shoot an email to Stephen.firstname.lastname@example.org to get the process started. You can write about WHATEVER you’d like!
Congrats on reaching 90210 territory! Cory Monteith, best known as playing high schooler and football star Finn on Glee, turns 30 today.
