Here are the (more than) Five Things for Wednesday, September 19, 2012:
Stories! It’s storytime at Peace Dale Library for kids, ages 3 to 5, at 10:30 a.m.
Business – serious business. The Southern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce is hosting Business After Hours at the Coast Guard House at 5 p.m. The cost is $5, and RSVP ahead of time.
“All great art comes from outrage.” – Glenn Close. The Contemporary Theater Company is hosting acting lessons at 5 p.m. The cost is $10.
Or maybe dancing is more your style? There are ballroom dance lessons at the Towers at 6 p.m. The cost is $15.
BLOOD! The Rhode Island Blood Center is hosting blood drives from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in the atriums of the University of Rhode Island Memorial Union.
Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events beyond school sports today, given that it’s Day of the First Public Appearance of the Slovak National Council. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).
“When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become president – I’m beginning to believe it.” – Clarence Darrow. Here are today’s government meetings:
- The Narragansett Pension Board meets at 9 a.m. at town hall.
- The Narragansett School Committee meets at 7 p.m. at town hall.
- The South Kingstown Zoning Board of Review meets at 7 p.m. at town hall.
Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!
Shucks! On this day in 1961, Betty and Barney Hill claimed they saw a mysterious craft in the sky, and it tried to abduct them.
You’ll always have Saturday Night Live, at least. Happy 49th birthday to Cheri Oteri!
