5 Things: Auditions, Books and The Grange

Five things to know on Friday, Jan. 20:

1. Act it out. West Kingston's Courthouse Center for the Arts, 3481 Kingstown Road, will hold auditions for roles in its upcoming production of "Avenue Q" today from 7 - 10 p.m. at the center.

Actors are asked to prepare both an up-tempo song and a ballad not from Avenue Q. Be prepared to sing these songs legit and in puppet character voices. A cold reading from the script is expected.

2. Richmond Grange No. 6 will meet at 7:30 p.m. at 690 Usquepaugh Rd, West Kingston with Master Haven Nelson presiding. The program this evening will be under the direction of the Deaf & Health Committee.

3. Get your kids to read more with the Peace Dale Library's Winter Reading Bingo for kids. Complete tasks with you child to earn a bingo and a chance to win books and prizes.

4. High School Sports watch:

The South Kingstown High School girls' basketball team will play against Portsmouth in the gymnasium, 215 Columbia St., Wakefield. The varsity game kicks off at 7 p.m. after the junior varsity game, which is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.

The Prout School girls' basketball team will play East Greenwich in its gymnasium, 4640 Tower Hill Road, Wakefield. The varsity team will play at 7 p.m. and junior varsity is at 5:15 p.m.

The South Kingstown High School boys' basketball team will play against Cranston West in an away game. The varsity match begins at 7 p.m. in the Cranston West gymnasium, 80 Metropolitan Ave., Cranston. The junior varsity game starts at 5:15 p.m.

The Prout School boys' basketball team will play against Mt. Hope at Mt. Hope High School, 199 Chestnut St., Bristol. The varsity team begins at 7 p.m., with junior varsity at 5:15 p.m.

The South Kingstown High School boys' hockey team faces off against East Greenwich at 9:30 p.m. at the West Warwick Civic Center on Factory Lane in West Warwick.

5. Snow showers will break for most of the day, with a slight chance of flurries in the morning. Temperatures will remain in the mid-30s with flurries expected to resume around midnight and continue throughout the day on Saturday. The skies will clear on Sunday with temperatures reaching into the upper 30s.
