Here are the (more than) Five Things for Monday, August 20, 2012:
“Economics. Voodoo economics.” – Ben Stein from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Gina Raimondo, the general treasurer for Rhode Island, is the guest speaker for the South Ferry Church 10th annual lecture series from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free, but any donations for the church’s preservation would be appreciated.
“I don’t mind what Congress does, as long as they don’t do it in the streets and frighten the horses.” – Victor Hugo. Here are the government meetings for today:
- The Narragansett Recreation Advisory Board meets at 5:30 p.m.
- The South Kingstown Recreation Commission meets at 7 p.m.
- The Narragansett Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m.
Learn about more than just books at the library tonight. There will be a belly dancing workshop at 7 p.m. Even better, it’s free!
A gallery benefit show! There is a gallery show of Stephanie Parker’s work to benefit the Courthouse Center for the Arts. The exhibit is on display until Sept. 9, and open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.
DANGER WILL ROBINSON! Starting in early September, we’re going to be phasing out the adding of new calendar events by our staff. This means that if you’re from a group or organization, you’ll have to start doing them yourself. It’s pretty simple, though! While logged into your Patch account, just go here.
