24th Annual Narrow River Road Race Held Last Weekend
The rain held off Saturday morning for more than 200 runners and walkers at the 24th Annual Narrow River Road Race.

NRPA’s purpose for the annual race is not only to raise money, but to encourage awareness for watershed protection.

With both starting lines packed with enthusiastic participants, the race kicked of at 10 a.m. The 5K starting line was located on Middlebridge Road at Pettaquamscutt Park in South Kingstown, while the 10K kicked off at the town beach.
Both races finished together at Narragansett Beach, with Matthew Thomas of Newport winning the 5K Run with a time of 16:46. Justin Bentley of Ashaway won the 10K Run with a time of 37:47.

The women were on the men’s heels, with Laurie Feit-Melnick of Narragansett completing the 10k with a time of 43:38, and having the fastest time among all the women. She is the coach of the University of Rhode Island women’s cross-country squad. Jodi McKenna of Middletown took the 5K with a time of 22:59.
Upcoming Events
The Sixth Annual Turnaround Swim will be held June 18 at the URI crew teams’ Campanella Rowing Center off Walmsley Lane in North Kingstown. The swim will start promptly at 9 a.m.
The Fourth Annual Pettaquamscutt Paddle is going to be held July 9 on Narrow River, starting at Narrow River Kayaks.
